Meta Pixel: Pro, Studio & Lifetime · TikTok, Google & CAPI: Studio & Lifetime · about 5 minutes
Set up your tracking pixels
No code, no developer. Paste your ID once in Settings → Master Pixels and MelodyLane adds it to every smart link, respects cookie consent, and sends the right events for you.
This is the detailed pixel setup. For the quick version, see the pixel walkthrough.
Don't have a Meta Pixel yet? Create one
- Go to Meta Events Manager and sign in with the Facebook account that runs your ads.
- Click Connect data (the green + button) and choose Web.
- Name it after your music, e.g. "Your Artist Name Smart Links", then click Create.
- If Meta asks how to install it, close that step — MelodyLane installs it for you.
- Copy the 15–16 digit ID shown under the new dataset's name. That's your Pixel ID.
Find your ID
- Open Meta Events Manager and choose Data sources (or Datasets & pixels).
- Click your pixel / dataset name.
- Copy the number shown under its name — that's your Pixel ID.
Looks like: 1234567890123456 (15–16 digits)
Paste it into MelodyLane
- Open Dashboard → Settings (Your Handle) → Master Pixels.
- Paste each ID into its field. A green check means the format looks right.
- Click Save pixels. Master Pixels apply to every smart link, current and future, unless that link has its own pixels set in the builder's tracking step.
- Need a different pixel on one release? Override it in the Smart Link Builder's tracking step.
- The Meta Pixel is included in Pro; TikTok and Google pixels and the Conversions API are included in Studio. Lifetime includes everything in Studio, and the 7-day free Studio trial includes it too. Pro accounts created before 1:17 PM PT on October 22, 2026 keep the full pre-split tracking set, including TikTok, Google and CAPI.
Collaborations: your Master Pixels cover every release automatically. Doing a split single or a feature with another artist? Add or swap their pixel just for that release in the Smart Link Builder's tracking step.
Go to SettingsWhat we send automatically
- Page view — when a fan opens your smart link. Meta: PageView and MelodyLane Smart Link Visit. TikTok: page view.
- Click — when a fan taps a streaming service. Meta: ViewContent and MelodyLane Music Click with the service name, plus MusicPreSave on pre-save links. TikTok: ClickButton.
- Sign-up — when a fan joins your email list. Meta and TikTok: CompleteRegistration.
GA4 & Google Ads
- Page load — the Google tag is configured for each GA4 and Ads ID (GA4 records its automatic page_view).
- Service tap —
select_contentwith content_type, content_id/item_id, item_name and creative_name (the service). - Fan sign-up —
sign_up.
Both IDs share one Google tag, so each event goes to both. For Google Ads conversions, create a conversion from these events — for example import GA4 sign_up or select_content, or use a page-view based conversion.
Your pixels vs MelodyLane's own analytics
MelodyLane's own Meta and TikTok pixels only run on MelodyLane's own site pages. MelodyLane's Google Analytics also measures visits to smart links on melodylane.io, but never on custom domains. Your pixels run on your smart links, on melodylane.io and on your custom domain — on your custom domain, only your pixels load, never MelodyLane's. Either way, nothing loads until a visitor taps Accept all in the cookie banner, and your own visits while signed in aren't counted.
No custom conversion setup needed. After your first real fan visit, the MelodyLane events show up on their own in Meta Ads Manager's conversion event list and under Custom conversions → Event. You don't need to make "URL contains" rules.
Pixels only load for fans who choose "Accept all" on the cookie notice. Your own visits as the owner aren't counted, and visits from Meta's Test events tool don't count toward custom conversions.
Check it's working
- In Meta Events Manager, open your pixel and click the Test Events tab.
- Open your smart link in a new tab (turn your ad blocker off first — see below).
- Click Accept all on the cookie notice, tap a streaming button, and try the email sign-up.
- Within a few seconds, PageView, MelodyLane Smart Link Visit, ViewContent, MelodyLane Music Click and CompleteRegistration should appear.
Faster check: install the free Meta Pixel Helper or TikTok Pixel Helper Chrome extension. Open your smart link, click the extension icon, and it shows a green check with PageView, MelodyLane Smart Link Visit, ViewContent and MelodyLane Music Click right in the tab — no need to switch to Events Manager.
Better matching: in Meta Events Manager → your pixel → Settings, turn on Automatic Advanced Matching. Add a Conversions API token too, and MelodyLane sends the ad-click ID, an anonymous visitor ID and hashed sign-up emails so Meta can match more fans and raise your Event Match Quality score.
TikTok and Google have similar test views: TikTok Events Manager → Test events, and Google Analytics → Admin → DebugView or Realtime.
Running ads to your smart link
When you create your ad in Meta Ads Manager, skip the Traffic objective (link clicks). It optimizes for people who tap ads by accident and leave before your music page even opens — the most common mistake indie artists make.
- Choose Leads, Sales or Engagement as your objective, with the conversion location set to Website.
- Pick your MelodyLane pixel as the data source.
- Set the conversion event to ViewContent or MelodyLane Music Click (optimize for fans who actually tap Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) or CompleteRegistration (optimize for email signups).
- Start with a small daily budget and increase it gradually as results come in.
Turn visits into audiences
Once your pixel has collected a few hundred visits, put the data to work in Meta Ads Manager:
- Retarget: create a Custom Audience of fans who triggered ViewContent or MelodyLane Music Click in the last 90–180 days, then show them your next release, tour dates or merch.
- Lookalikes: tell Meta to find thousands of new people who match the profile of fans who tapped your music.
- Exclude buyers: when you retarget, exclude people who already tapped through so your budget reaches new fans.
Ad blockers stop pixels from firing
Ad blockers and privacy tools — uBlock Origin, AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, Brave Shields, Safari's tracking protection and some VPNs — block Meta, TikTok and Google scripts on purpose. If you test with one on, it will look like your pixel is broken even when it's set up correctly.
- Pause your ad blocker for your smart link page while testing.
- Or test in a private window with browser extensions turned off.
- Or test on your phone in a regular browser with no blocker or VPN.
Some real fans use blockers too, so your ad results may show slightly fewer visits than your MelodyLane Insights. That's normal.
