How to set up a Spotify pre-save link for your release

A Spotify pre-save lets fans ask ahead of time for your release to land in their library on release day. Fans sign in with their streaming account and give permission. Ask your distributor for a pre-save page, add it to a MelodyLane pre-release smart link, and share that one link.

Anyone can read this guide. Some steps use features in Pro, Studio & Lifetime.

  1. 1

What does a Spotify pre-save do?

    • A pre-save lets fans ask ahead of time for your release to land in their library on release day.
    • Fans sign in with their streaming account and give permission.

Watch out: A MelodyLane smart link doesn’t save music by itself — it sends fans to the pre-save page you provide.

  2. 2

When should I deliver my release for a pre-save?

    • Deliver your music well before release day, following your distributor’s lead time.
    • Ask your distributor if it offers a pre-save page or a Spotify URI.

Tip: Availability varies by distributor, so ask early.

  3. 3

How do I create a pre-save smart link?

    • Go to Dashboard → Smart Links → New Smart Link and choose a pre-release campaign (Pro or Lifetime).
    • Add artwork, release date and your pre-save destination.

Tip: Test the pre-save button in a signed-out browser before sharing.

  4. 4

How do I share my pre-save link and switch to live links?

    • Put the one link in your bio, posts and ads.
    • Turn on fan email capture to tell fans when the music is out.
    • On release day, edit the same link with verified listening URLs.

Tip: Your shared address never changes.
